A real Christmas tree is one of the most important elements of Christmas. The sight, the smell, the look is timeless.
In the UK eight million real Christmas trees are sold annually – no wonder our car park was busy last weekend – and 30 million in the USA. In the times of green and climate impact is this a good thing? We say it is.
Before it is cut down and displayed, a Christmas tree is grown on land that might otherwise be used for different purposes. A single Christmas tree can absorb up to 1 ton of carbon dioxide over its life time.
Christmas trees have grown for roughly 10 years before harvesting, meaning that for every tree cut down one year, another nine or so stay standing.
Every tree cut is replaced by, at least, one other.
During this ten year cycle studies have shown nature has benefited, with for example, declining farmland birds welcoming the cover and habitat with fields of Christmas trees.
Over the years, the Christmas tree has come to symbolise the faith and hope of all mankind. In other words, it is Christmas Spirit.
